More about:

Noah And The Whale’s guitarist Fred Abbott has released his first solo track since the band announced their break up last week, and you can listen to ‘Funny How Good It Feels’ below.

Last week, Noah And The Whale stated that after nine years together, they decided that it was time to focus on their solo projects.

"Dear Friends," they wrote on Facebook. "Noah and the Whale have decided to call it a day. We have had an incredible eight years together and are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way. There are too many people to mention in this short message but we would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to all of our amazing fans, who have supported us so magnificently over the years and made everything possible. Love, NATW."

Abbott is the first member to share a solo track post-split. He told the Guardian of new song 'Funny How Good It Feels: “If you attended a Noah And The Whale soundcheck at any time in the last five years then you probably heard me, Urby, Mike and Tom jamming some of these songs. Last year while the band was on hiatus I took the opportunity to record them properly, with the boys from NATW and some other talented friends. Now that Noah has officially split the time seems right to put this stuff out there. Enjoy!”

Along with the track, Abbott posted to Facebook: “Here's your first taste of ‘Serious Poke’, featuring Michael Petulla and Urby ‘Matt Owens’ Whale in the rhythm section and some stellar backing vocals from McGoo and Grace Barrett.”

Abbott will release his solo album, Serious Poke, on 20 July, via LoJinx.
