Don't listen to your defeatist friends - summer isn't over yet. These are the kind of people for whom Glastonbury or Benicassim are a distant memory, and thus they have decided that summer peaked back in July. Don't listen to them.

There is a wealth of great festivals to visit all the way until mid-September. Why not get a hold of some tickets to behemoths like Bestival - or,failing that, why not try something new? This time of year offers some really diverse and vibrant smaller festivals, such as One Love Festival or Underground Festival - both of which have killer line-ups and reasonable ticket prices.

Here are 12 festivals you should check out before the summer actually ends.

  • Don't listen to your defeatist fiends, summer isn't over yet. These are the kind of people that arrested themselves to Glastonbury or Benicassim earlier this year and decided that summer peaked back in July. There is a wealth of great festivals to visit all the way until mid-September so here are 12 festivals you should definitely check out before the summer actually ends.

  • Bestival: This one might be a bit tricky to get a ticket for since it's massive, very soon and all the way on the Isle of Wight, but not impossible. With sets from The Chemical Brothers, Missy Elliott, Jamie XX, Flying Lotus and Future Islands, the slight electronic leaning of this festival makes it a must-visit. Bestival will be 10 - 13 September.

  • End of the Road: Celebrating it's 10th birthday this year, be sure to stay locked onto those ticket resale websites. With sets in the gorgeous Larmer Tree Gardens from Sufjan Stevens, Tame Impala and The War on Drugs, EotR is on the rise so be sure to check it out before people realise it's cool. End of the Road is 4-6 September.

  • Sundown Festival: If End of the Road is a bit twee for your taste and your looking for something more in the realm of 'banger' that weekend, Sundown is probably for you. With sets from Rudimental, Tinie Tempah, Sigma, MNEK and Raleigh Ritchie, expect an illegal amount of bass. Sundown will be between 4-6 September.

  • Victorious Festival: Set in Southsea, a beautiful location just outside Portsmouth, Victorious Festival will be a blissful end of summer for any die-hard music fan. Sets from Peter Hook, The Flaming Lips, Primal Scream, Ray Davies and Super Furry Animals, how could you say no? Victorious Festival is on the 29 and 30 August.

  • Moseley Folk Festival: If you're looking for an impromptu family getaway, Moseley Folk Festival might be right up your alley. There's no better way to get the little ones into music than sets from Spiritualized, Idlewild and Anna Calvi. Moseley Folk Festival is set in Birmingham between 4-6 September.

  • Underground Festival: Set in Gloucester, this festival has been hosting some of the coolest up and coming acts for 5 years now. While Tall Ships and Frank Carter are cracking headline acts, be sure to check out all the up-and-comers Underground has to offer like Baby Strange, Loom and Demob Happy. Underground Festival will be on the 26 and 27 September.

  • Festival No. 6: This "bespoke banquet of music arts and culture" is catered for those as exquisite a music taste as they have an imagination. A festival for the more refined palette sets from Metronomy, Belle & Sebastian, Everything Everything and British Sea Power will go down a treat. Festival No. 6 will be between 3-6 September.

  • Wilkestock: So you're in the market for something more authentically small time? Try Wilkestock out. Located in the heart of Hertfordshire, the line up has the most toured festival band in the world, The Dub Pistols. Along with sets from Amber Run, Beans on Toast and Caspa, this is the perfect spontaneous festival to rock up at. Wilkestock will be on 4-6 September.

  • Pitchfork Music Festival, Paris: You'll have to put a bit more effort into your travel but it is completely justified. The sheer amount of quality music on this line up is almost too good to be true: Beach House, Deerhunter, Ariel Pink, Destroyer, RTJ, Battles. Thom Yorke, Kurt Vile, Four Tet, Health, Ratatat and Father John Misty. It's a no brainer but if you need time to make a decision, P4K Fest Paris will be 29-31 October.

  • Iceland Airwaves: What started as a one-off party in an airport hanger has now become a showcase for the best in Icelandic and worldwide music. As well as a slew of Icelandic music to introduce yourself to as well as sets from Lapsley, The Pop Group, La Priest and John Grant. Try your hardest to sort out a expedition to Iceland for 4-8 November.

  • Liverpool Music Week: If Paris is a bit far and Pitchfork isn't so much your scene, get a train up or down to Liverpool for their music week. With a colossal line up featuring Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Deerhunter, Gang of Four, SOAK and Spring King, LMW15 is the latest in awesome opportunities for UK music fans.
