Pete Doherty – Perhaps modern day music's most troubled star, there was a time when not a day went by when Libertines and Babyshambles star Pete Doherty wasn't getting collared by the police. His prison stints include one in 2003 for theft and another in 2008 for breaching probation.
Lil' Wayne – America's biggest hip-hop star was locked up earlier this year after pleading guilty to gun possession. But like all good rappers, Lil' Wayne has become more prolific behind bars, releasing a host of songs, including one which he rapped down his prison phone line.
George Michael – Troubled former Wham! star George Michael found himself banged up in September 2010 after crashing his car while under the influence of drugs. The singer crashed into a Hampstead photography shop just weeks after completing a two-year driving ban for a similar offence. And he thought life was much better on the 'Outside'.
Phil Spector – Music producer Phil Spector was found guilty in 2009 of murdering the b-movie actress Lana Clarkson. Clarkson died after she was shot in the mouth at the music producer’s Los Angeles home in 2003. Spector, who pioneered the Wall Of Sound recording technique, had pleaded not guilty to Clarkson’s murder and the original trial in 2007 resulted in a hung jury.
Boy George – Boy George was jailed for 15 months in 2009 for falsely imprisoning a male escort in his home in East London. The former Culture Club star was told by the judge that his actions were "premeditated" and "callous", and had "traumatised" Audun Carlsen.
T.I. - T.I. was sentenced for a year and one day in 2009 after he pleaded guilty to possessing federal weapons. The rapper was arrested in October 2008 just hours before he was due to appear at the BET Awards.
Ian Brown – As far as rock star jail sentences go, former Stones Roses frontman Ian Brown's is certainly up there with the most unusual. In 1998, the singer was sentenced to four months after threatening an air stewardess with plastic cutlery during a flight. He served most of his sentence at the notorious Strageways prison.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards – The two Rolling Stones stars were arrested on drug charges in 1967 and sentenced to three months imprisonment. But after serving just one night behind bars their sentences were later relaxed on appeal, with Jagger's being amended to a conditional discharge, while Richards' sentence was overturned.
James Brown – The legendary soul singer had multiple brushes with the law before he even found fame, serving three years in prison aged 16. In 1988, was also sentenced to six years n prison for carrying an unlicensed pistol and assaulting a police officer. He was released in 1991 after serving just three years behind bard.
Gary Glitter – Disgraced paedophile Gary Glitter first found himself behind bars in 1999, when he was convicted of possessing child pornography and sentenced to four months in jail. The singer served just half his sentence, but was jailed again in 2006 after a Vietnamese court found him guilty of sexually abusing two young girls.
