Leave the muddy UK fields behind this year...

Planning on getting that same train to that same festival in the UK this year? Well maybe you should shake up your summer plans a little bit. Because you know what? Some of this season's best festivals are taking place outside of the UK.

Festivals are an inherently British thing. No one does camping and fields and mud quite like us - but that's not to say that our European cousins haven't been able to make a few region-specific tweaks to the format, book some of the biggest bands on the planet and outshine some of the biggest events the UK has to offer.

The location is often better, the weather is almost always better, the line-ups are great and in a lot of cases, travel and admission isn't quite as expensive as you might think. These are the 13 European festivals you should consider in 2014. Think outside the muddy box for once...
