Aphex Twin has slammed Kanye West, while discussing new material from his forthcoming album in a series of interviews.
In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Richard D James commented on West’s ‘Blame Game’, which sampled Aphex Twin’s ‘Avril 14th’ from 2001’s drukq’s.
He notes: “Is it a sample? I actually don’t know what it ended up being in the end.”
"I’m so slack. I know that he tried to fucking rip me off and claim that he’d written it, and they tried to get away with not paying.”
In another forthcoming interview with The Fader, James has revealed that some material on Syro is six or seven years old.
“I’d stockpiled up so much stuff and you can kind of have to draw a line under it somewhere,” he says “By banging something out it, it’s like the end of the chapter. It properly draws a line under it and allows you to move on.”
Despite not being official previews, it appears four tracks from the record have been performed by Aphex Twin in the past, just under different names.
’4 bit 9d api+e+6′ was allegedly performed at an ATP performance in 2007, while ’2010 XMAS_EveT10 (thanaton3 mix)’ was performed live in 2010 (here as ‘Metz’), check out both videos below.
Syro is Aphex Twin’s first album in 13 years, and will be released on 22 September via Warp Records.
