The French-Cuban musical duo Ibeyi took to the stage last night for their sold out show at London Koko - the crowd greeting the humble siblings with a roar of applause and screams. Everybody was ready for their unique concoction of jazz, soul, hip-hop and beyond.

In the wake of their opening song, Lisa-Kaindé apologises and explains that she's sick, losing her voice over the last three days but refusing to cancel the pair's London show. "We are so happy to be back," she victoriously proclaims. "If I mess up, feel free to laugh."

You really wouldn't notice the loss of her voice for a second. The pair float gleefully through several cuts from their debut LP and regularly break for acapella breakdowns on tracks like 'Mama Says' that zip with joy and vocal skill from both sisters.

It's these moments that are truly breathtaking, with the twins effortlessly tapping into the same sonic frequency and unleashing melodies that would surely move even the most stern of individuals. After an extensive period of touring, the sisters are undeniably in sync.

Oh, and they're both so God damn cool. When they move away from their unique set-up of keyboards, drum sample machines and large traditional drums, they bound around the stage with a confidence that suggests they've been doing this for far longer than they actually have. The Diaz sisters are fully embracing their moment after a snowballing rise to acclaim and the success of their debut album.

"We decided to make an album about our family - to celebrate them. The next song is for our father and it's called Think Of You." It's a touching moment that actually causes a few sobs and sniffles around the venue.

Together, the two are truly a joy to behold and they amaze with a beautifully unique and soulful version of rapper Jay Electronica's 'Better In Tune With The Infinite. Their final version of 'Come To Your River' is also a wonderfully rousing moment, with the crowd shouting back "wash my soul" in unison and coming together to forge an atmosphere that's both exhilarating and wonderfully communal.

I'm not sure I saw one person without a smile on their face when the pair finally took a bow and disappeared from the stage. See you next time, Ibeyi.
