More about: Sigrid
After dazzling on a support tour for George Ezra earlier this year and having triumphed on the Other Stage at Glastonbury in June, Sigrid is back in the UK to put smiles on faces for a final time as she wraps promotion for her debut album Sucker Punch.
With just one LP and a handful of EPs, its remarkable how many solid gold bangers Sigrid already has at her disposal. And she knows it, bouncing about the stage, a permanent grin etched across her face as she cajoles and claps along. ‘Mine Right Now’ is a surprise opener but by the second chorus the room is right there with the band. A slew of early EP tracks are less well known but hold their own, ‘Schedules’ a whirlwind of glee and romance.
The fingerpicked ‘Level Up’ and a sombre ‘Dynamite’ showcase Sigrid’s versatility, scaling back the euphoria but still thrilling with her vocal performance. The latter in particular is a highlight and hints at future possibilities - if the bangers every dry up.
Insisting on minimal playback, the band give the songs extra life, with the drumming in particular giving each chorus a different lift. ‘Sight of You’ is a pick-me-up anthem that has hands in the air before ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’ brings the attitude.
Eschewing an encore, Sigrid just keeps pumping out the jams, with the audience drowning out the band as ‘Strangers’ envelopes the room. Sigrid deserves her spotlight and is grateful for it, and if she can keep writing gems like ‘Don’t Feel Like Crying’ the stages will only get bigger.
