So it's a real pisser when, after six songs of highly charged, super slick electro/guitar crossover, there's still no trace of a tune. Such a ballsy attempt to play the part of superstars is admirable, but ultimately misguided. You wouldn't put a batmobile body kit on a Ford Fiesta and expect to get away with it for five minutes, let alone forty-five - but Pylon do. The two set openers emulate the soulless grooves of pop disasters, Republica, while new single 'Foot In Mouth' provides a powerful mechanical pulse but little else to match the rampant on-stage enthusiasm. Yet it remains an intriguing dichotomy. Such is the conviction of their performance I'm finding it hard to admit to myself that I think they're basically shite. So when 'Pushin' (or something like that) starts with a cheeky nod to the Donna Summer classic 'I Feel Love', I'm practically praying for it mutate before me into a dance-floor monster and consume the audience in a merciless and frenzied attack. Of course it doesn't, and with the announcement that tonight's set will be the longest of the tour (we're not even half way through!) there's only one thing left to do. Leave.
