More about:

For their first headlining tour, the UK’s most promising act Years & Years wow a sold out show in London. In a celebratory homecoming gig, the trio bring their electro-soul-pop sound and perform one of the most exciting sets Heaven has seen in a long time.

The performance is club-oriented and the laser-laden set is almost deep house - a perfect setting for this band’s combination of 90s house, R&B and electropop tracks. Emre Turkmen delivers ever-expanding synths and each song is drenched in pulsating reverb – it’s infectious. In the middle of the engrossing web of sounds, frontman Olly Alexander’s soulful buoyant vocals envelop the crowd, as he commands the stage with his ardent presence. The crowd constantly extend their arms with him for every “ohh-ohhhh” throughout the night. Later, whilst sitting at his keyboard, Olly launches into the incredibly moving ballad ‘Memo’. Afterwards, he smiles at bassist Mikey Goldsworthy in triumph - this is their night.

They even take the opportunity to test some exclusive tracks from their much anticipated debut album; “There’s lots of new material, it’s a little bit scary!” Olly gushes. Their new floor-fillers, massive choruses and addictive hooks are met with intense enthusiasm and, based on tonight; there are more exciting times to come. The encore, eagerly awaited ‘King’, is welcomed with deafening screams and sweaty dancing; “It means the world to us…” Olly beams.

The band have topped the prestigious BBC Sound of 2015 list, and their massively popular single ‘King’ is set to be number one on Sunday; but do they live up to the pressurised expectations that come with this success? Of course they do, they completely exceed them. Years & Years are the unique voice needed amongst the crowded resurgence of electropop.
