I Am Arrows - 'Sun Comes Up Again' (Mercury) Released: 16/08/10

There's no doubt Andy Burrows is in a good place right now. After quitting Noughties garage rockers Razorlight after motormouth frontman Johnny Borrell reportedly refused to give him the songwriting credit he deserved (he co-wrote their only chart-topper, 'America'), there must be a certain amount of schadenfreude in witnessing J-Bo's current fall from power (I personally would have bolted for the exit the first time he donned that all ice-white ensemble on stage), as Razorlight are clearly not the arena tour straddling outfit of yore.

A superlative drummer in his own right, Mercury obviously had plenty of faith in the sticksman’s songwriting capabilities too - signing him up a matter of days after he quit the band following several reported Stateside bust-ups.

And while this wasn't immediately evident - his debut solo LP 'The Colour Of My Dreams' was far too twee  - with the addition of the musical security blanket not performing under your own name provides, together with a bunch of like-minded musicians (including brother and bassist Ben) as I Am Arrows he appears to have finally hit his stride.

Though a tad overlong at 14 tracks, there are a number of polished (and unpolished) gems to be unearthed here. From folksy opener and current free download 'Nun' to recent electro-infused single, 'Green Grass' - it makes for a strong opening.

Elsewhere, 'Another Picture Of You' is a delightful slice of lo-fi indie-pop and the melancholic serenity of 'Battle For Hearts &  Minds' is delightful.

'So Long Ago' and 'The Us' are just two of the middling tracks which let the side down though, but there's certainly enough here to ensure Burrows starts getting the recognition his songsmithery deserves.
