New talent Caitlin Rose closed her first proper UK tour at the beautifully intimate surroundings of the Latest Music Bar in Brighton. The dimly lit room was full to capacity for the young Nashville country singer, with a lot of the crowd old enough to be her parents.
Entertaining the crowd with quirky chat about her shopping day in the city, porn and touring it created a good relationship with the oldies, some of whom were sat at tables, whilst others got a bit lairy from their glasses of wine and joined in the banter. It was a nice intimate atmosphere that suited the music.
Rose and her three piece band made their way through the majority of her debut album, 'Own Side Down' with some of her earlier material and a Dolly Parton cover thrown in. The singer is a mix between June Carter and Kimya Dawson whilst her band join in the fun whilst staying much more ‘pro’ as the same kept saying. Her charm really won the audience’s hearts, her songs only encouraged the crowds warm receptions as the singer played sing-a-long games with them. Making her way through bottles of beer the singer admitted to feeling a little drunk as she got the crowd to shout out their names at once, for her amusement.
The singer has received criticism for just joining in the trend in the new crop of young female country and folk singers, but this performance banished any questions of authenticity. Her spirit, passion and sense of fun really highlighted her enjoyment and pride in her talent which she has a lot of. The future is bright for her,
