If there’s ever been a track tailor-made to soundtrack poolside shenanigans in glitzy teen dramas, it’s this breezy blend of gushing bubblegum pop and sophisticated soundscapes not far removed from an updated and vastly accelerated take on Blue Lines-era Massive Attack. Unsurprising, then, to learn that Imogen Heap's ‘Goodnight & Go’ has already made it to the OC, but just when you’re ready to dismiss its calculatedly catchy charms as little more than painstakingly polished fluff targeting both teenagers and the coffeetable crowd, husky-voiced Heap, dubbed a “download diva” due to her huge online profile, catapults it several notches up the scale of intrigue amidst the middle eight’s grand orchestral sweeps and dramatic yearning worthy of Kate Bush. There’s clearly potential here for much more than this pleasant mainstream radio fodder.
