Blur have released a 30 minute making-of documentary which follows the unique recording process for their comeback album The Magic Whip.
The sessions sees the group reconnecting, using the Hong Kong underground and jamming for the album which Alex James labelled "an unexpected baby." The film documents everything from the initial recording sessions in Hong Kong which took place during a productive five days off, to the piecing together of the comeback LP which was helmed by Graham Coxon and producer Stephen Street.
Coxon's reason behind taking on the leading duty was to make up for past mistakes: "if something was there [in the recordings] and I didn't go through it I'd regret it for the rest of my life, I felt a weird sense of duty, I'd messed up with Blur a lot in the past and I felt if it worked then it would readress the balance and past shame."
Albarn also delves into the process behind the lyrics on the album, which sees him going back to Hong Kong and exploring North Korea. It also captures Coxon realising he was the subject matter to the tender ballad 'Terocotta Heart,' Albarn explained "it's about giving someone a second/third chance."
