Scott Weiland, the former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and member of Velvet Revolver, has died aged 48.

The musician's manager, Tom Vitorino, confirmed Weiland's death early this morning (4 December) on Instagram: "Scott Weiland [...] passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected."

Weiland, who had a history of drug problems, was fired from Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 after nearly 30 years in the band. He had since been performing with his new band, The Wildabouts - though his new incarnation was not without its controversy.

Weiland's cause of death is currently unknown, but TMZ is reporting that his body was discovered on his tour bus outside a motel near the venue in which the band were supposed to perform.
