UB40 fans reportedly fled a Cambridge gig this week, after sound levels were so loud that one person was left with bleeding ears while others were forced to leave the venue in pain.
The BBC reports that during a gig at Cambridge Corn Exchange on Monday (14 April, 2014), the volume and bass of the band's sound was so loud that around 30 audience members had to leave during the first song.
One fan Anna Webster said: "It was just horrendously loud - the bass was vibrating even in the foyer. There were so many people walking out because they couldn't deal with it. It was vibrating through your whole body - it was actually altering heart rhythms."
She added that the noise caused her ear (already perforated due to a condition from childhood) even started to bleed.
A UB40 spokesman added that they contacted Ms Webster to apologise and offer her VIP tickets, which she accepted - adding that
"the vast majority of people were not affected",
Fellow fan Angela Paffett added: "The bass crashed into you like a steam train. I had a pain in my chest."
A Cambridge Corn Exchange spokesman said the venue always worked within "strict health and safety guidelines" and ear plugs were made available for people, but the concert's sound levels were the reponspibility promoter DHP Concerts (who said they were the responsibility of the band's crew).
UB40's tour continues. In other UB40 news, a young mum was recently jailed for biting a chunk out of another's woman's ear during a pub brawl after one of their tracks was turned off at a disco.
