- More The Cinematics
For The Cinematics life is moving fast. The Glasgow four piece are on the road promoting second single ‘Break’ on a tour which started in their hometown and ends on March 11 after playing pretty much every major town in Britain. However touring is not an alien concept to the band. Having spent most of last year on the road with some of the biggest and hottest acts around they are now embarking on their first headline tour. Gigwise caught up with them three dates into the jaunt to see how things are going.
"Its going well, we played Leeds last night and everyone that was there was really loud and up for it,” says front man Scott Rinning, with himself and guitarist Ramsey doing most, well all, of the talking for the band tonight. Ramsey adds that all four of them are glad that the closing night is in Glasgow, "It takes the pressure of a bit and there will be a big party afterwards, the drinks are notoriously cheap in the Art school!"
Now Glasgow is infamous for its music scene with every other band seemingly from the city. So has being from the indie capital of Britain advanced The Cinematics cause? Rinning says, "Well it certainly helps, there are so many venues and it’s such a great place to see bands as well." Ramsey jumps in to add “Glasgow is definitely where all the bands come to in Scotland, there’s certainly a scene there, whereas there isn’t in any other cities such as Dundee.” Scott rounds it up by saying, "Everyone keeps each other company, it is the cultural hotspot of Scotland."
However, the band aren’t originally from Glasgow. They hail from a place much smaller, Dingwall deep in the Scottish Highlands. A place Scott describes as, "Small, rural and drunk". Ramsey then says, "I wouldn’t say coming from Dingwall makes you want to be in a band more, but it makes it easier. If you live in a big city there is a multitude of things you can do, but in Dingwall all there is to do is practice, write songs and rehearse". Scott adds, "It’s the kind of place where you either take drugs, drink or join a band and do both at the same time!"
Now the band have an impressive list of fans, We Are Scientists have recommended them to people and bass player Adam is neighbours with Snow Patrol main man Gary Lightbody, who recently claimed them as his new favourite band. "A friend of ours invited us to play in Glasgow and Gary was there, he had just got off a plane from Amsterdam and was a little bit worse for wear! He saw us and has been singing our praises ever since," explains Ramsey.
