With the 10th anniversary edition of Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul fast approaching, the density of top-notch acts is overwhelming. Simmering it down to its core in the below playlist allows us to take in just how much of a carefully curated line-up it is.
With the likes of the Thai funk inspired psych of Texan band Khurangbin, the electronic-jazz hybrid of Neue Grafick, and the vocal athleticism of leftfield pop artist Aadae on the playlist – there’s plenty of gems to dig into.
Moreover we've included the latest cut from The Brand New Heavies, a smooth, funky cover version of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘These Walls’, which is out today and produced by the mighty Mark Ronson. And don’t miss Bristol’s Ishmael Ensemble: their ambient jazz tones that ought to send you into a transcendent state before building into something to whisk you out of your stupor.
Last but not least in the track list is a taste of what’s to come from local band Odd Soul – a name indicative of Mostly fest's ambition to be a springboard for emerging local bands and DJ’s. They're paying it back close to home for having the privilege of taking over its best green space for a weekend.
Indeed, the festival site is an oasis away from the urban sprawl. The summery feel of much of the music will be benefit from being performed in the lush, biodiverse 11-acre woodland glade that is Birmingham's Moseley Park.
And if you aren't already going but fancy it after hearing the below bands and/or checking out the line up in full, here's ticket information.
