The emotional resonance of Elliott Smith colliding with the barbed vigour of Sleater-Kinney

Make peace, not war - so the expression goes. Without opening a can of geopolitical worms, we can probably agree that resisting war is easier said than done. Laura Kidd of She Makes War has been waging emotional warfare through her songwriting for five years now, and is releasing an EP to reflect on her experiences, and the emotional battlegrounds she's conquered. Listen to 'I Am' below, exclusively on Gigwise.

The new collection of tracks is, paradoxically, titled Disarm:15. After five years of relentless touring with 400 shows under her belt, Kidd has set out to rework the tracks on her debut album for this new collection. A task that avoids embellishment on in favour of a mature reflection - Kidd aims to showcase how far she has developed as an artist.

With her new album, Direction Of Travel, slated for a release early next year, this part-old, part-new EP will come as a relief for any fans itching for new material. You can check out the raucous unrequited love-letter here as Kidd croons: "You kissed my heart, then you ripped it away" over dissonant guitars.
