Yep, it's early days, but it looks like we’ve found the weirdest story of 2016 so far. Pregnant women can now play music to their unborn baby with a gadget that lets them to fill their womb with audio. That piece of tech is called the Babypod vaginal speaker – and you can buy it right now.

Invented by Spanish gynecology clinic Institut Marquès, the device can connect to your smartphone or MP3 player and is inserted into the vagina like a suppository. Volume is limited to 54 decibels – creating an ambient music environment for your little sprog.

But why? According to developers, the gadget "stimulates the vocalization of babies before birth through music and encourages their neural development." It is also claimed that most babies react with body, mouth and tongue movements when hearing music through the device.

The creators also insist that Babypod has no adverse effects on the development of the foetus and that there’s no battery or Bluetooth inside the device – though it still seems a little impractical to have cables sprouting from you like a human docking station.

Babypod can be purchased from their website and even comes with an extra pair of earphones so you can have a silent disco with your baby.
