Motorhead’s guitarist Phil Campbell will perform with members of Metallica and Skindred to form supergroup Mass Mental in London this week.
Mass Mental is a project ledby Metallica’s bassis Robert Trujillo and Benji Webbe of Skindred. The heavy metal stars will be joined by Paul Simon collaborator Armand Sabal-ecco, Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe and Brant Bjork of Kyuss at the Electric Ballroom show in Camden on 13 March. Mass Mental was founded in 1998 by Trujillo, releasing ‘How To Write Love Songs’ in 1999 and the live album Live In Tokyo. Shortly after the band broke up.
Blabbermouth reports that Campbell will also appear live with the supergroup. The show had been upgraded from its original venue of Underworld.
Campbell was Motorhead’s guitarist since 1984 but was unable to attend frontman Lemmy’s funeral in January. He explained ttat he "really wanted to attend but I wasn't able to make it". He added: "Unfortunately I was advised on doctors orders not to fly on such a long haul flight due to my recent hospitalisation".
In other news, Download Festival has named their main stage after Lemmy. The festival is also planning an addiditional huge tribute to honour the rock and roll icon.
