Bass guitar-led and characterised by vocalist Theo Polyzoides’ staccato lyrics with strong Gothic themes, ‘Black Tree’ is unrecognisable from the chaotic crescendo of previous releases.
On the new single, Polyzoides said: “‘Black Tree’ is a hard run through something bleak, and I think it had to be done.”
Referencing the new album, he continued: “[it’s] really autobiographical. It’s full of songs about becoming, songs about reminiscing, songs about making an album. It’s a tribute to teenage angst, to naivety, to memories both melancholic and despairingly sad - to the need to step up to the plate.”
Mass will be released 4 October on Dirty Hit. The track list is as follows:
- Mascara Runs
- Chinese Medicine
- Transformer
- Cowboy
