The hip hop community is mourning the loss of yet another of its greats this morning. According to DJ Chuck Chillout's Twitter post, Phife Dawg of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest has passed away at the age of 45.

Though he had been battling with Type 1 diabetes, an condition he developed in 1990, the cause of his death has not yet been confirmed. That hasn't stopped the world of hip hop sending its condolences.

With messages streaming in from all areas of the world via social media, names such as Statik Selektah, Chuck D, Aesop Rock, El-P, Trevor Nelson, Styles P, Juicy J, Crooked I, and many more have been quick to send their condolences.

A Tribe Called Quest are hip hop royalty. Phife is an integral part of them receiving this status. With a fun and fiery flow - that was laced with a Trinidadian accent at times - Phife's quick-witted lyricism has always set him apart from the pack. When you think of potent rap voices, Phife's is up there with the likes of Method Man and Busta Rhymes.
