Muse’s Matt Bellamy appeared on BBC Radio One this morning, during which he mocked Coldplay’s Chris Martin, invited Adele to perform a duet with him at Glastonbury, and stated his belief that “artificial intelligence is breeding babies.”
The frontman spoke to breakfast show host Nick Grimshaw earlier today, taking a break from the band’s world tour. Speaking of their O2 Arena shows, he said, "We think we’re going to break attendance records there which will be great, because we’re playing in the round. We’re going to play right in the middle so we can maximise how many people we can get in. We’re going to try to break the record for how many people you can get in the building in one night.”
Things then took a turn for the weird. “They’re training hawks to take down drones,” he explained confidently. “Little ones that fly around, because they can snoop into people’s lives and also they’re dangerous. Artificial Intelligence itself though is even more scary. Dating sites have algorithms that match people up. That means that basically AI is breeding babies.”
Conversation then turned to the band’s forthcoming Glastonbury performance - which will also put them in the record books, as the first act to play every night at the festival. “I was particularly happy to see the poster,” he joked, "because our name was at the top. I texted [Coldplay’s] Chris Martin a picture of the poster as a joke, saying, ‘Keep writing the hits mate, you might get headline billing one day.’ And then I went, ‘Seriously, good luck with your stadium tour by the way.’”
Asked if he had any advice for Adele ahead of her first headline slot at the festival, Bellamy said, "The best thing to do would be to come the night before, and watch us, and come on and sing a song with us - sing ‘Feeling Good’ or something, take the pressure off, like a no pressure little moment like that. Or just watch a few acts, and get a feel for the stage before you go on.” We prefer the first option.
