An 18-year-old woman has passed away in her tent at Boomtown Fair Music Festival, in Winchester Hampshire.

The woman was found unconscious in her tent on Monday morning at the festival site in Matterley Bowl.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire police, said: “Sadly, despite efforts from paramedics and the on-site doctor, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious but investigations are ongoing on behalf of the coroner. Officers continue to work closely with BoomTown organisers, and witnesses and friends who were at the event are being supported. Next of kin have been informed.”

The festival has been at the centre of some controversies over the years as this most recent death is the fourth in the seven-year history of the festival.

Police have also reported that £79,000 worth of drugs were taken off festival-goers this year, whilst £55,000 worth were placed in amnesty bins. Yet, police have said that crime was down at this year's event.

Out of 10,000 attendees, 186 crimes were reported compared to 337 last year. The number of thefts from tents were 21 compared with over 100 last year.

BoomTown Fair also suffered a huge blaze that saw more than 80 cars destroyed. Hampshire fire and rescue service area manager Steve Foye, said: “This devastating fire shows the danger and impact of discarding lit cigarettes."
