AC/DC have addressed rumours regarding Brian Johnson’s sudden exit from the band.
Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose is currently preparing to step into Johnson’s shoes after Johnson was urged to 'stop touring immediately' or risk losing his hearing, midway through the band’s current Rock Or Bust tour.
Following this though, comedian Jim Breuer - who is a friend of Johnson’s - said the frontman felt “kicked to the curb” by the band. This led Johnson to release a further statement, describing the turn of events as "worse than anything I have ever in my life felt before."
Now, band members, bassist Cliff Williams and guitarist Angus Young, have filmed a short one minute video explaining the singer's departure from the band.
Young stated, "You get a lot of rumours out there; a lot of people think Brian was fired. [But] that's not the case. It was mainly his hearing. He already had a very bad ear, and the good ear that he had left was dropping rapidly. I mean, it was an ongoing [issue]… all the way pretty much through the tour from the beginning."
Cliff expanded on Young’s comments and claimed that Johnson “had an instance where there was a marked drop in that one good ear and it came back, but not completely. The doc told him this can happen again and it may not come back.”
Since the announcement that Axl Rose would be taking Johnson's place, roughly 7,000 fans who purchased tickets for the band's Belgium gig this month have asked for refunds. However, it has since been reported that these tickets have been resold.
Young argued that the decision was “out of [their] hands," adding, "We wouldn't win in a lot of situations because if we just stopped, there would have been a lot of people unhappy."
On replacing Johnson, Rose commented, "I'm not dancing around about this, because it's not like, okay, somebody said they're gonna go do something else. It's because of an unfortunate circumstance. And that's something I'm very aware of."
