Duncan Jones, known for his films Moon and Source Code, has revealed how great an influence, and what a model for change his father David Bowie was, in a beautiful and heartfelt tribute.

The director told the Associated Press how his father taught him to believe in his own creative impulses, "I think as much on the creativity level — his bravery and willingness to try stuff that other people weren't expecting".

Speaking about how he did not follow the same path as his father Jones said, "My dad was obviously prolific in music, but he also acted and I think I had the most fun when we were on film sets... I think I got the (directing) bug back then".

Jones added, "Because the musical gene did not express itself in the way one might have hoped, my main hobby with my dad was shooting little one-stop animations and I just always carried that interest in film".

Following his instincts, was evidently something he learnt from his father, "I did two science-fiction films and then jumped into a video-game movie, and now I'm going to go from this behemoth to another tiny, little indie. So just doing what feels right at the moment on a creative level is certainly something I got from him".

Duncan Jones made headlines earlier this year when he slammed Lady Gaga's Grammy Awards tribute to Bowie as 'mentally confused' - but then praised Lorde's at the BRITs as 'beautiful'

This year also saw Duncan Jones announce that he and his wife are expecting a child, and revealed an awesome card in which he told David Bowie that he was due to become a grandfather
