'Get Over You' is revamped for 2016 and sounding better than ever

To continue 2016's 40th anniversary celebrations surrounding the birth of punk, one of the era's best bands, The Undertones, are releasing a 7" remix by Kevin Shields of their classic 'Get Over You'. You can listen to it first on Gigwise below.

Taken the multi-track analog tape as the starting point, Shields had the best material to work with. And as an obsessive audiophile he had the credentials and certainly puled off a mix, and certainly did a great job. It makes it sound less like them playing in a school hall but doesn't distract from the feel of the original session at all. It's also much louder for modern stereos and is the best version to play if you're going to DJ this track at clubs.

Kevin Shield's reputation as a sonic innovator/audiophile is best known through the fact he  nearly bankrupted Alan MGee's Creation Records in making the seminal album, Loveless, released in 1991.

He is rumoured to have spent £250,000 on recording, which in those days would probably have afforded you a decent house in Notting Hill. He tried so many different studios, producers, and innovated with tremolo techniques and tuning systems, unorthodox production methods, obscured vocals, and sampled feedback and percussion to create the most important and influential shoegaze album of all time

Meanwhile, The Undertones are also releasing remastered versions of their debut self titled album, and Hypnotised as part of their anniversary. It will be released on 7 October

'Get Over You' will be released on 180g red vinyl also on 7 October.
