Metallica have picked Halloween especially to unveil 'Atlas Rise' - the latest taste of their forthcoming album Hardwired To Self Destruct, and it's just as supercharged as everything else we've heard from it so far.

'Atlas Rise' continues on the riff-led brute force that 'Moth Into Flame' and 'Hardwired' suggesting that the new album could be among their heaviest.

Metallica are renowned for their high octane shredding but also have songs in their cannon that cut between melodic ballad's and metal such as 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'One'.

Hardwired To Self Destruct is out 18 November so time will tell if it relents at all and anything echoes the strucutre of the above classics. But what we have so far is a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. It shows Metallica holding nothing back and the clarity of Lars Ulrich's superhuman drums, the expert riff's, and Kirk Hamett's solos leave you breathless. Metallica evidently still have so much more to offer even over 30 years into their career.

The latest cut comes in fairly long at 6.31 but doesn't let your attention fade for a second. The way Hammett bursts into his solos is eye-poppingly brilliant and he plays it out for a decent amount of time. Some people disregard solos as self-indulgent, but when Hammett plays you just let it happen because there aren't too many peope on this planet better qualified to be adding flair of this sort onto a record.

The video to the song shows Metallica playing the recording in their studio, which is covered in flags. They recorded the album there with producer Greg Fidelman and are releasing it on their own label, Blackened Recordings - taking business into their own hands.

The band have started to roll out dates for their ‘WorldWired’ Tour - which promises to take them to all corners of the globe. Additional shows are being added all the time.
