Ty Segall has released his new video to 'Break A Guitar', which is the opening track to his self-titled ninth studio album.
The video sees a brief cameo of American actor Fred Armisen karate kicking a guitar to pieces before Ty Segall and his band (the Freedom band) appear in a surreal way floating against the black background. They soon form part of a busy kaleidoscopic visual with a host of familiar faces - including Henry Rollins - filling out parts of this thrilling, beautiful piece.
The end of the video features a crazy, surprising moment and makes a nod to the precarious political situation we're in. Check it out below now to see.
The song itself shows few other groups can conjure the true magic of garage rock as meticulously. It's what the godfathers of rock 'n' roll would appreciate seeing being created.
Importantly, Segall's self-deprecating sense of humour and ability to created a spoof of his own path in life makes his likeable character shine through. In addition to referncing the godfathers, there's hints of more modern bands who also share retro leanings, such as Queens Of The Stone Age.
To be on a ninth album at the age of 29 is quite some feat. It's a massive contrast to the way a lot of bands only release an album every four year and shows Ty Segall eschewing the rules and norms of the industry. An exciting loose cannon to have around.
