Guns’n’Roses were held up by a ‘security check’ when they landed at Sydney Airport last night (February 8), only to find that it was a prank by AC/DC’s Angus Young to welcome them to Australia.
Angus, who performed with Guns’n’Roses at last year’s Coachella Festival on AC/DC tracks ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ and ‘Riff Raff’, had airport staff delay the band disembarking from the plane so that he could arrive to personally welcome them to town for a string of dates on their current Not In This Lifetime tour, which hits the UK in June.
Bassist Duff McKagan described the incident on Twitter. “Told we had to stay on plane last night in Sydney,” he wrote, “‘airport security' wanted to do a check. We waited. It was Angus Young in an orange vest!”
The links between AC/DC and Guns’n’Roses have grown deeper over the past few years, as Axl Rose replaced singer Brian Johnson for AC/DC shows in 2016 after Johnson suffered hearing issues. With the departure of bassist Cliff Williams last September, speculation is rife about the future of AC/DC, although Young, the only remaining original member, has promised to keep the band going.
