New Zealand is at this moment waking up to Lorde's new single 'Green Light'. Yep, it's March 3 in N.Z, which means - thanks to the concept of time - us lot in the UK get our hands on the new track first...right? Anyway, you can check out the video and track below.

As it was previously hinted at, the single sees Lorde go full-on pop - with 90s piano riff, running bass drum and euphoric chants of "I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it" combining to form something very different from the N.Z singer's debut.

Letting go of all inhibitions, the video shows Lorde dancing on the roof of a car and twirling down the streets to what's looking like 2017's biggest banger yet. The clip was directed by Grant Singer, who recently worked on Taylor Swift and ZAYN's 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' video.

Promotion for the comeback single began in Aukland yesterday, with fans taken on a treasure hunt in locations tweeted by the singer. Fans ended up at Herne Bay beach to find the song's lyrics being emitted from a lightbox as green lights lit the surroundings.

Lorde took to Twitter yesterday to express her excitement about her comeback: "“I am so overjoyed to finally announce that my first single, Green Light, is coming out tomorrow at 8am NZ/2pm NYC. I am so proud of this song. It’s very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you dance."

As the release drew closer, it seems excitement turned to nerves as she posted earlier: "OMG it's today i could vomit".

Lorde will presumably perform the track when she makes an appearance on Saturday Night Live on March 11.

Meanwhile, Lorde has also unveiled details of her eagerly awaited second album. Its out next Friday (10 March) and is named Melodrama.

Lorde has also discussed the album with Zane Lowe on Apple's Beats 1 radio, confirming that her long time away was a conscious decision: "For me it was kind of about processing what I want to say next and I knew it just couldn't be any old thing," explained the 20-year-old.
