Green Day have always had the high levels of support from their fans that lesser bands have always craved – a fact not lost on the band’s singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong when the band were serenaded at their hotel by fans following the last minute cancellation of their Glasgow gig last night (July 4).

Videos have appeared on social media showing a crowd gathering in the street outside where the band was staying and singing some of Green Day’s most popular songs to them.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Green Day were forced to cancel their hugely anticipated outdoor gig at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow gig yesterday over safety concerns caused by adverse weather conditions.

A statement said: "…the local safety council, production crew, and concert organizers have deemed the stage unsafe."

Fan Samantha Garvan tweeted clips of fans gathering in the street outside Green Day’s hotel and singing their songs to their heroes to show there were no hard feelings.

Their efforts were acknowledged by Billie Joe Armstrong. Taking to Instagram, he said: “Hello Glasgow kids, Scotland. This is a bummer, we really wanted to play and I guess it was unsafe for everybody in the crowd and the crew and the band. “Right now, I can actually hear people gathering out front of our hotel singing ‘Still Breathing’, which was beautiful. What a bummer.”
