More about: Bloc Party
Kele Okereke has announced details of a new solo album, Fatherland. Set for release on October 6, the album is the follow-up to 2014’s Trick and boasts a number of guest performers.
Recorded in Portland, Oregon, with Bloc Party bassist Justin Harris taking on production duties, Fatherland features appearances from Years & Years’ Olly Alexander on ‘Grounds For Resentment’ and Corrine Bailey Rae on ‘Versions Of Us’.

Ahead of all of that, Kele has also shared the video for new track ‘Streets Been Talkin’’. A gentle, acoustic track, it’s some distance removed form the music that’s come to be associated with either Kele Okereke the solo artist or the material he makes with Bloc Party. It’s certainly perfect for this time of year but looking at the video, one can’t help but feel in impending sense of dread that Prime Minister Theresa May might came running through in a misplaced act of self-professed “naughtiness”.
Speaking of the track, Kele said: "'Streets Been Talkin' was one of the first tracks I wrote for the album. It's a bittersweet ode to romance and the passing of time."
Reflecting on the album, Kele said: “I was listening a lot to Elliott Smith’s 'Either/Or', 'Pink Moon' by Nick Drake, 'Blue' by Joni Mitchell, and the Al Green album, 'Still In Love With You’.
“Writing these songs and expressing these words and feelings, it’s something that’s vital for me. I’m recognising I’m entering into a different part of my life."
