Just over 18 months since he died and David Bowie is still making waves with the news that the ‘Starman’ hitmaker has reached his billionth stream on Spotify.

The former Thin White Duke reached the staggering milestone last Thursday (August 24) as it was revealed that his 1977 classic ‘”Heroes”’ was his most streamed track. Which is pretty ironic when you think about as the single, which features Brian Eno and King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp, only reached number 24 in the UK singles chart upon its release. It posthumously reached number 12 in the wake of Bowie’s passing in January 2016.

‘”Heroes”’ was also recorded in French and German, with the latter version appearing on the soundtrack of the cautionary 1981 film, Christiane F.

A Top 10 of Bowie’s most streamed tracks reveal that his 70s material – specifically the glam years covered by the albums Hunky Dory (‘Life On Mars’, ‘Changes’) The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (‘Starman’, ‘Moonage Daydream’) and Diamond Dogs (‘Rebel Rebel’) – is his most popular period. Two tracks from his early 80s mainstream breakthrough – ‘Modern Love’ and ‘Let’s Dance’ – also made the Top 10.

Bubbling under in the Close-But-No-Cigar category were ‘Fame’, ‘The Man Who Sold The World’, ‘China Girl’, ‘Oh! You Pretty Things’, ‘Sound & Vision’, ‘Where Are We Now?’, ‘This Is Not America’, ‘Ashes To Ashes’, and ‘Young Americans’.

And still nothing from Aladdin Sane? What is wrong with people?
