Hot on the heels of the 50th anniversary re-issue of their debut album earlier this year, The Doors are celebrating the golden anniversary of their second album, Strange Days, with a new deluxe package. Unlike the debut re-issue, there won’t be any live material.

So what will we have? Set for release on November 17, the new package will focus on the original stereo and mono mixes of the album and will be available on double CD, vinyl, and download. The album’s original engineer, Bruce Botnick, has overseen the production. The original stereo mix of the album will available on CD for the first time in a decade and the package has been remastered for the first time in 30 years. The mono mix makes its CD debut. The original mono mix is how the band intended for the album to be listened to and has been unavailable on vinyl for years.

Also included in the package are liner notes by the ever dependable and celebrated music journalist David Fricke along with a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs.

Strange Days was originally released in September 1967 – a mere eight months after the band’s eponymous and influential debut. Widely regarded as a more experimental record than its predecessor, it spawned two hit singles in the shape of ‘People Are Strange’ and ‘Love Me Two Times’. The album peaked at Number Three in the US charts and has gone to be a firm favourite among heads, students and Liverpudlians for generations over.
