Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have given a taster of their upcoming album, Who Built The Moon, by sharing new single, ‘Holy Mountain’. As previously reported, the new album has been produced by David Holmes.

Speaking of the new single, Noel Gallagher said: “It was one of the first things David and I did on the first week of working together. I knew instantly that it was going to be the first single. There’s so much joy in it. Until the day I die, it will be one of my favourite pieces of music that I’ve ever written. It sounds great live. My kids love it, my friends’ kids all love it and I am sure ‘the kids’ will love it.”
The new track is certainly a bit different from what we’ve come to expect from Noel. ‘Holy Mountain’ finds Noel moving into a more upbeat glam rock territory with huge, honking saxophones blasting away in the background and all propelled by stack-heeled terrace-stomping beats. And with more than a hint of, er, Ricky Martin and a touch of Belgian punk rocker Plastic Bertrand.
Judging by some of the comments posted on YouTube, not that everyone is happy about ‘Holy Mountain’. MrSmith04 says, “I love Noel as much as anyone. But this song is pretty bad.”
Musically Stoned opines: “Rkid be turning into Ricky Martin. The ‘she fell she fell’ bit kinda sounded like the choruses of ‘She Bangs’.”
Turbo-Dog wasn’t too thrilled either: “Who build the moon? More like Who build this shite?”
But there are supporters, too. g watts added: “After ten listens and getting by the ricky martin similarities I actually quiet like it definitely a grower” and Ham4Every1 enthused: “I AM LOVING THIS.”
Who Built The Moon? is out on November 24. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds then tour the UK in the spring. They play:
