Never knowingly releasing a tastefully restrained video when a completely over-the-top one is at hand, shock rocker Marilyn Manson has released the totally-and-utterly NSFW video for ‘SAY10’ (see what he’s done there?) – and it features a starring role for his friend Johnny Depp.
Taken from his new album, Heaven Upside Down, Manson says of the video: “After the the balloons have all shrivelled up and are swallowed in the puddles of puke and idealism, don’t look to me for sympathy.
“I am here to be all that I am accused of not being. And to be blamed for what you made me. The shots you will hear are from a mouth disguised as a gun. Don’t call this art. This is a hard cock in a room full of vampires and the music, man. The music is my foul blood on your face.”
Umm… yeah. But what is certain that the video does contain all the elements that you’ve come to expect from a Marilyn Manson video: enough latex to make you wish you’d invested in rubber a few years back, contact lenses, semi-naked bodies writhing around, allusions to masturbation and a theological stand-off between God and the Devil. Or a couple of mates getting dressed up and having a good laugh. You decide.
Musically, it’s not as heavy as his previous single, ‘WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE’, but the Mechanical Animals-era vibe about it is no bad thing:
Meanwhile, the self-style God Of Fuck is currently recuperating at home after a stage prop fell on top of him during his gig at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on September 30.
