Snow Patrol, The Delays and now The Veils, the great 'real-indie' revival continues apace on 'The Runaway Found' and for added schmindie bonus points its released through Rough Trade and produced by 90's axe wielding hero, Bernard Butler. By rights this album should be the sole preserve of late 20 something's harking back to a bygone baggy era , but 'Runaway…' is solid gold proof that you just can't keep a good tune down.
With the temerity and ballsy confidence to rip off both The Smith's and 'Urban Hymns' era The Verve on the sweeping, emotive pop of 'The Wild Son', it's this unashamed and clear love of their influences that literally cannot fail in raising a guilty smile. 'Guiding Light', brushed with a characteristic Suede glam swagger, already struts along like it knows it's going to be an indie disco staple for the next 10 years and on the stark and stripped down 'Talk Down The Girl', The Veils emerge as the Starsailor it might just be ok to like.
In a world of achingly cool garage rock bands determined to name-check a be-zillion bands you've never heard of, The Veils are a re-assuring blast from the not so distant past.
