The National are set to return to the studio in June to record the follow up to 2005’s brilliant long player ‘Alligator’.

After touring the material for a year the band are set to record new tracks for the album which is set for release in the spring of 2007.

Guitarist Aaron Dessner told Billboard: "Touring for the amount of time that we did was really great and fun, but it was starting to cut into our personal lives. So we're happy to be home. 'Alligator' was thrown together kind of quickly. We want to take more time with this one."

The as yet untitled record will once again be produced by Peter Katis though Dessner says it is too early to tell yet if it will sound drastically different to its predecessor.

The band are planning a short European tour in the Autumn as well as their already confirmed summer festival dates.
