Soul legend Stevie Wonder’s mother and co-songwriter Lula Mae Hardaway has died. She was 76.
Hardaway helped Wonder write a number of his early hit songs, including Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours and I Was Made to Love Her.
Wonder has said of his mother, who appeared with the singer at the 1974 Grammy Awards, “We prayed for our mother to have the best. We wanted her to be queen. We were blessed a million times by the blessing that I received in my life."
The Los Angeles Times said Hardaway died on the 31 May, but did not carry any further details of her passing.
In other news, Wonder will perform as part of the commemorations for the anniversary of Detroit’s fatal 1967 riots.
He will play the Ford Field Stadium on 27 July as part of the city’s 40-day observance to mark the 40th anniversary of the riots, which left 43 people dead.
