The Gossip – ‘Listen Up’ (Back Yard) Released 03/07/06

Wanna know the problem with this ‘new rave’ thing?  The music might be a whole bag of amphetamine-fuelled fun, but the greatest night out of your life is never really going to consist of watching two speccy guys twiddle knobs on some piece of machinery labelled ‘Korg’.  The Gossip’s stage show is much more interesting to watch - a fat chick from Arkansas fronting a Motown-punk-dance band - but the music is just vaguely groovable pedestrianism.  So MSTRKRFT’s blistering B-side remix of ‘Listen Up’ gives the best of both worlds: the nerd duo’s electro squelches with the band’s soul diva attitude.  Does that make overweight American women with laptops the coolest thing in music right now then?
