The Black Neon is a man suspended in a fall from his former incarnation as one half of Fort Lauderdale. A TX81Z is an old model synthesiser (circa 1986). The Black Neon’s relationship with the subject for his first solo release is not quite pc… Calling to ‘masticate, annihilate, and violate’ synthesisers in music shops the world over are quaking in their little tech boots. But don’t worry, ‘TX81Z’ masterfully uses synth technology along side an expertly played drum sequence and some almighty guitar fornication. If it sounds bewildering, that’s because it is! This musical half life pulls at the industry through slats of light and shadow, ‘we are all just fools/silly little fools/if its cool then it aint cool/we gotta play it by your rules/such silly little fools/my TX81Z/I love you.’ His cynicism is rife, but this astute observation has blessed him, despite a refusal to play live, with the foundation for a solo career that has the potential for greatness.
