Just under four million watched the last ever episode of Top of the Pops last night (July 30).
The programme had an average of 3.9 million viewers according to the BBC, up nearly three million on recent viewing figures.
The show was presented by Jimmy Saville and other former hosts including Mike Reid, Edith Bowman, Anthea Turner and Tony Blackburn.
The hour long show featured past performances by The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Spice Girls and more plus the final countdown to number one.
In its heyday the show attracted 15 million viewers every week.
