‘I Hid My Heroes’ is not a bad introduction to folk-inspired, mellow-indie pop, but it just doesn’t develop what could be a great potential.  First track ‘Imogen’ is the stand out of the EP, showing a poetic lyrical beauty not often seen in tracks claiming to be ‘indie’.  However, the EP shows little or no variation from the opening ballad.  Vocally, singer Tom Grant is similar to the wonderfully inspired Duke Special, but without any of the originality.  As a group they’ve been likened to Modest Mouse, but they show none of the same emotional intensity.  So they have a unique sound then you may say?  Well, unique doesn’t always mean good.

  • I really do have to wonder if Jennifer Westmoreland listened to the same ’I Hid My Heroes’ EP as myself. She obviously has no concept of what musical development actually is. I found Greenwich Resident to show a great deal of variation through the entire EP most notably in the emotionally provocative title track ‘I Hid My Heroes’. This band shows a lot of potential and this is a great debut release.

  • I have already listened to this EP and I think this review is USELESS! Greenwich Resident are a superb band. The band are constantly evolving their style and are constantly writing songs. Live, they are AMAZING! Im sure people who have seen them will agree. I don’t think Jennifer Westmoreland actually LISTENED to the EP. It is full of emotion and musical skill. In this case, unique is VERY good! Well done on a great EP boys!

  • I heard one of the tracks, not quite the actress, on colins bb1 show, and i loved it. so i checked them out in london this last weekend and i thought the show was incredible... a lot more intense then i thought it would be. i havent heard the other tacks on the cd but what i heard at the show was some pretty crazy stuff, didnt sound very ”indie” to me either. i dont know what to expect of the i hid my heroes EP but i believe it will be great! - mike

    • @Gigwise Hmm, there might be some technical reason they're doing them in a particular order. Christ knows.

    • @Gigwise It's because the only way they could get Dave Rowntree to play the drums was to hypnotise him. Too strenuous otherwise, poor chap.
