The a2030 – ‘Neo Hoolie’ (Beat Crazy) Released 15/01/07

Is that the choo-chooing of an oncoming bandwagon I can hear? Why, it’s the new rave express! All aboard! Aspiring indie band with little-to-no talent? Pick up some synthesisers and jump on! You’re GUARANTEED a decent review in NME!

The a2030, formerly a band called Ricky (who apparently had a top-40 hit, fact fans) are one such band. Hilariously merging Alex Turner-lite social commentary with what sounds like the demo button on a casio keyboard, new single ‘Neo Hoolie’ is so bad it’s almost listenable. About, and I quote directly from the press release here, “Johnny’s narcotic-fuelled weekend exploits and the endearment such behaviour earns him from the Sharon’s and Traceys of the playground” (what the fuck?!) The a2030 are the type of band you’d be pretty sure were having a laugh at your expense, if they hadn’t included such an earnest photograph and even their mobile number with the cd. The tune’s passable, but with lyrics like “With Gianluca up his hooter everything will be alright,” and “Get him on the shant on a Saturday night” this is as far away from Mike Skinner and the Klaxons as you can possibly get.
