A beautiful, haunting requiem undulates simply from the speakers. Mark Lanegan’s – (ex Screaming Trees frontman and QOTSA collaborator) voice hypnotises and the eerie yet comforting tones drag you in begging for redemption in God-like proportions. The arpeggio, single note piano riff that holds hands with the beautiful acoustic guitar are a perfect backdrop that reminds you of many but is unmistakably Soulsavers. Johnny cash on his American recordings; Alabama 3 on their masterpiece ‘La Peche’ and Nick Cave all spring immediately to mind.
The Virgin Mary, Jesus, a tarot card baring the devil, a gun and a butterfly all adorn the front cover to the single, which goes someway to informing you of the content. The lyrics are of halos, prayers, death, scraps of truth. It’s a contradiction; both scary and beautiful and will probably elicit one of two emotions; love or hate.
