Not since The Crash Test Dummies has humming been used to such effect. There isn’t enough humming in songs today which is strange as it’s so useful when you run out of words. No lyrics left, still have a minute of the guitar looping over the backing track, could just repeat the chorus, no; lets hum.
When you see or here an interview with Tobias Froberg he will no doubt say his musical influences are Simon and Garfunkel. With ‘God’s Highway’ he has tried to create the next track on Sounds of Silence. The finger picked guitar, the layered voice to create the audio apparition of two voices, the lyrics. “Winter turns to spring and summer turns to fall”. Unfortunately it isn’t 1964 and this isn’t Greenwich Village, New York and Tobias Froberg isn’t Paul Simon. It’s a nice little folk number though.
