Nneka – ‘God of Mercy’ (Four Music) Released 12/03/07

‘God of Mercy’ – the second single from debut album ‘Victim of Truth’ – is a powerful return to form for Nigeria-born Nneka. With DJ Farhot masterminding the production, the hip hoppy beats are aggressive and solid, but it’s Nneka’s vocal delivery that really packs the punches here. In places her voice is delicate and almost childlike, whilst in others it is confident and insistent. Either way, the sense is that Nneka genuinely believes that her music can carry a message, be it political or otherwise, and this alone puts her head and shoulders above some of her contemporaries and their shallow lyrics.
