Not one to keep her gob shut, Lily Allen has labelled American people as “backward.”

The typically flippant comments were made in the aftermath of Allen’s appearance at the South by Southwest Festival, in Austin, Texas.

She reportedly said: "It's all very weird here. They're all backward in Texas but not as much as they are in Arkansas and Wyoming where I'm going soon.

"I can't really speak for the American population - I'm so far away from anything they are and stand for."

It’s not the first time that Allen has courted controversy in the US. On the NME stage at SXSW she politely told the music weekly to go away, saying: “Fuck off you cunts.”

Someone calling 300 million people backwards - is that just the biggest case of pot and kettle or what? She obviously doesn’t know many Americans. I’ve spent a lot of time over there and the stereotype of ’dumb Americans’ is basically wishful thinking on the part of their government. There is far more progressive activity going on over there than in th UK that’s for sure. Lily Allen is a very silly person that isn’t at all controverial but actually quite tedio

This from a girl who has started to pimp herself out to big companies offering her lots of cash to advertise their stuff? I know a hell of a lot of Americans who are not backwards enough to do THAT that’s for sure. She is a very politically naive young girl who could learn a lot from Americans. All the Americans I know are struggling for international justice and against their government’s crimes - Lily Allen on the other hand is singing pop songs. Who really is backwards here Lily?

Lily Allen is still a child really.....wet behind the ears.As for Texans being backward, I’ve met a few Backward people right here in the UK so every country has them....Oh yes and she cant sing and her Dad cant act.I wonder if she’ll still be around in five years time.... I doubt it !!
