Much has happened to the Alterkicks since they formed in 2003 that is worthy of grabbing anyone’s attention. Not only have they toured like their life depended on it, they’ve signed to B-unique (home to the Kaiser Chiefs and Primal Scream) and also got together with Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) to record their debut album. The notoriety that precedes them therefore has already set an impressive benchmark. With their new single ‘Good Luck’ however, they prove it’s a reputation that’s well deserved. Charming from the outset, ‘Good Luck,’ is a romantic slab of guitar sprinkled pop where Martin Stilwell utters the words, “She was holding too tight just to feel alive tonight,” with such malleable sincerity you’ll go weak at the knees. Sometimes reputations can be overbearing, with Alterkicks, reputations just don’t seem to matter.
